2 - Soil Test Kit

Plants use nutrients as they grow and testing soil is the best way to make sure your soil’s health stays in tip-top shape (which means healthy plants!). We have been using these rapid tests each season so we can prepare our garden beds correctly.

3 - Dual Bin Composter

Composting is so great for so many reasons and is a great (and easy!) thing to do if you garden. This dual bin rotating composter is great for beginners - with two bins you can effectively harvest year-round compost as you can have both an active and passive side. The turn table makes it easy to rotate and keep the pile active.

4 - Compost Thermometer

For any composter, a compost thermometer is a must! This was such a game changer in our own management of our compost and will certainly help your gardener geek out about compost even more.

5 - Watering Can

Upgrade their watering can! This is the perfect (and useful!) gift that every gardener will always enjoy receiving.

6 - Drip Irrigation Starter

Give the gift of time. Installing drip irrigation is great in so many ways but with certainly save a lot of time for you gardener not needing to water constantly. Bonus - drip irrigation will save money and the environment too. This starter drip irrigation set is perfect to get your gardener up and running.

7 - Bareroot Roses

Give the gift of summer blooms with a bareroot rose! We definitely encourage you to shop local if you can, but if your unable to source locally we have linked one here. To note, you can only purchase bareroot roses in the winter and early spring but make a great gift for your favorite gardener!

8 - Pruners

Gardeners always will appreciate new pruners but usually hate buying them since they already have one. Seriously. If you don’t know what to get them gift them some new pruners!

9 - Moisture Meter

Every gardener or house plant lover needs one of these. In seconds, you can determine if your plants need watering without getting your fingers dirty! We love this little frog one but there are more traditional styles to choose from. This moisture meter has saved many of my plants lives.

10 - Seed Storage Organizer

If your gardener starts seeds or wants to, gifting seed organization would be a great gift. We love using a ‘photo box’ for our seeds. With 16 individual containers, it’s easy to label and easily pick out your tomatoes from your bean or your lettuces. Best part is if one of your seed packs spills, it’s a lot easier to find out which one and keep your seed collection tidy!

11 - Garden Gloves

Just like the pruners, new or upgraded garden gloves ALWAYS make a great gift! We like ones with extra padding or protection around the thumb and index finger but most pairs are better than the old pair your gardener is already wearing!

12 - Hose Nozzle

Practical and almost always needed. It’s a known fact that now matter how great a hose nozzle you get they always fail after a couple years. Since this is a highly used item for any gardener we added it to our gift guide. Just be sure to get one with multiple spray patterns like the one we have linked here.

13 - Weather Station

Gardeners are usually weather nerds (ahem, my husband) and knowing the exact weather on their property is a must! This weather station tells you the humidity and temperature with calculating rainfall (daily, monthly and annual) for your backyard. Plus it shows you wind speeds, moon phases and a lot more in real time. Pretty neat, huh?

14 - Harvest Basket

Every gardener needs a harvest basket or an upgraded one, and this is it! We don’t have this exact one, but one similar. This harvest basket has holes in the bottom so easy to wash your produce outside so you don’t have to bring all the dirt and bugs inside.

15 - Gardening Journal

If you’re looking for a thoughtful garden gift a gardening journal is the perfect way for your gardener to track their successes and failures throughout the year. This journal is organized by season with a dot grid so your gardener can track exactly where their plants grew and how they did.

16 - Fermenting Lids

Give the gift of experimenting and trying out fermented foods is fun! We tried out fermenting a few seasons ago and have a lot of fun trying out new things. Fermented foods isn’t just kimchi, but fermented cabbage, cucumbers and hot sauce are also great to try out! This kit comes with the lids that fit easily over wide mouth mason jars and has a handy recipe book to help with their experimentation!

17 - Gardening Book

  • The Complete Idiots Guide to Composting by Chris McLaughlin is the book to have when you want to start composting. It reads like a book but is also a great reference for a gardener wanting to learn more about the ins-and-outs of everything composting.

  • 1/4 Acre Farm by Spring Warren is a book every gardener should read and has a great story of turning your urban lot into a food oasis.

  • Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving is what it says and is THE reference for anyone wanting to preserve (or is already into preserving!). It includes recipes and the how-to on how to preserve safely.

18 - Personalized Garden Sign

Going personalized is always a great choice. When thinking about buying something personalized, we always shop through Etsy because they literally have everything! We purchased personalized garden signs which are a great gift and help that garden feel homey and a perfect retreat to unwind.

19 - Squirrel Feeder

This squirrel feeder is hilarious. Its a little picnic table that you can put a corn cob on for the squirrels to sit on and eat. Though not directly garden related, your gardener will love having the squirrels stay out of the garden and laugh every time they sit down for a snack.

20 - Solar Garden String Lights

We added these to our garden last year and love the feeling these add to our outdoor garden. They are solar (with battery option) so simple to set up and you can set it and forget it. They will definitely transform your gardeners space and they will thank you for it.

21 - Electric Garden Chipper with Collection Bin

Arguably the best gift I gave Lucas, this garden chipper is a game changer. We love it because it turns tree, shrub and garden clippings into small chips that compost quickly. We particularly like this Earthwise 15-Amp Garden Corded Electric Chipper for the attached collection bin which makes clean up a breeze.

We hope this list helps you find the perfect gift for the gardener in your life! If you have something we are missing be sure to comment below so we can snag one too!
